Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)

Connecting To Wifi and Getting Support:

Chromebooks Purchased/Issued Through Dunstan

  -Should automatically connect to the Jeffco-Internal Network.
  -Get support from Ms. Dolan by completing the I Need Tech Help Form under Student Resources
(Students will need to log into Google using their @jeffcoschools.us account in order to
   access this form.)

All Other Devices Not Purchased/Issued Through Dunstan

   -Need to set up to connect to the Jeffco Instructional Network using the instructions below: 
    Connecting/Disconnecting Devices to Jeffco's Instructional Network
   -May request support from Ms. Dolan using the I Need Tech Help Form under Student
    Resources but support may not be available.

Important Information The Green Mountain Articulation Area has agreed (elementary, middle, and high school) to use Chromebooks as they roll out their 1:1 plan. Having a plan and a device selection that spans all schools in the articulation area will help ensure that 1:1 runs smoothly from building to building and that students receive the support they'll need as they transition from elementary school to middle school and then middle school to high school. Cell phones don't qualify as a personal device to be used during class for instructional purposes. Cell phones are a great way to stay in contact with others but they cannot be used to complete classroom tasks during the instructional day. Students who wish to use their cell phone during class time must get explicit permission from the individual teacher each time. Please keep in mind that if a student's attention is on their phone, they are missing out on instruction, collaboration, and teacher-support time.)

Discouraged devices: Kindle, Nook, eReaders, Nintendo DS and/or PlayStation Portable PSP. *It's possible that iPads could be added to this list since app versions and Chromebook versions aren't always the same. While these devices are great for personal use, they don't seem to work well with the various learning management systems (LMSs) used to access instructional materials or submit work currently being used by Jeffco.

Should you choose to provide your own device, please know:

  • No repair or support is provided through the school or district.
  • A decent screen size and the ability to do school work is essential...and it's difficult to write a paper and do research without a keyboard.
  • Teachers won't be able to enroll the device in the classroom management system (LanSchool), which helps to ensure the safety and integrity of your student while online during school hours.
  • Educational apps cannot be automatically pushed out to the device, so students will need to add them to their device on their own.
